The swan has a special place in the Danes’ hearts.
This beautiful bird can be seen all over the country, where it floats majestically and calmly on lakes and streams. And then, of course, there’s the strong connection with H. C. Andersen's famous fairy tale, The Ugly Duckling.
Perhaps it was a mix of both these factors that made Danish TV viewers choose it as our national bird in 1984.
